United Way Hosts Annual Dr. Seuss Literacy Event

United Way of Northern Cameron County recently hosted its annual Dr. Seuss literacy event, bringing families, community partners, and local organizations together for a morning dedicated to reading, creativity, and community.

Held at the Harlingen Public Library, the event welcomed children and families for story time, activities, and opportunities to connect with local organizations that support literacy and educational resources in our community. We are grateful to the Harlingen Public Library for providing the space and helping make the event possible.

A special thank you goes to our guest readers, including Explore Harlingen’s Lisa and Candie from the San Antonio Eye Bank, for sharing their time and love of reading with the children who attended.

Several local organizations joined us as vendors to share resources and activities with families. Thank you to the Boys & Girls Club of Harlingen, Boys & Girls Club of San Benito, The Literacy Center, Niños, CASA, TKO, Diana Scott, Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas, the San Antonio Eye Bank, and the MMA Cheerleaders for participating and supporting the event.

We would also like to thank the Harlingen Collegiate High Robotics Team for creating the trophies for our costume contest using their 3D printing skills. Congratulations to our three costume contest winners who brought their favorite storybook characters to life.

A big thank you as well to Pretty Bling Balloons for the beautiful balloon arrangements that added a fun and colorful touch to the celebration.

Although the event wrapped up a little earlier than expected, the morning was filled with smiles, stories, and community connections that continue to highlight the importance of literacy for children and families in our area.
